About the event
Parkview Police & Public Safety invites you to an engaging 40-hour training week about present-day crisis intervention. Crisis Intervention is a first responder model of police based crisis intervention training to help persons with mental disorders and or addistions access medical treatment rather thaan placing them in the criminal justice system.
The course provides an understanding of mental illness and incorporates the development of communication skills, practical experience and role playing. Law enforcement officers are introduced to mental healt professionals, consumers and family members both in the classroom and through site visits.
Course Objectives:
1. Improve officer safety and understanding when working through crisis involving mental health.
2. Develop officer confidence and tools when responding to a mental health crisis.
3. Understand and utilize mental health resources from around the community.
